GUIDES / ONE STEP AT A TIME
Fewer loose papers.
More context.
A method for photographing receipts, reviewing extracted details, organising categories and finding expense context.
Take a readable photo.
Put the receipt on a flat surface in good light. Include the whole document and avoid shadows, cropped edges and reflections. If details are hard for you to read, they may also be difficult to extract automatically.
Review before saving.
Confirm the date, items, amounts and total. Discounts, refunds and items sold by weight deserve attention. Always compare extracted details with the original.
Keep categories consistent.
Choose a category that represents the expense and use the same approach for later purchases. If a receipt contains different types of expense, review how those details are recorded before confirming.
Do not confuse organisation with a tax archive.
An expense record helps you understand spending. It is not by itself a certified tax archive or a guarantee that retention obligations are met. Keep originals and supporting documents needed for your situation.
From receipt to month.
After confirming, return to the transaction to review its context and compare the category with your budget. Discover receipt scanning in Ravnu and the SPARK.
From original to checked record.
| Item | Amount / reference |
|---|---|
| Item: coffee | 2,50 € |
| Item: croissant | 1,20 € |
| Expected total | 3,70 € |
| Chosen category | Food |
| Verification | Compare with the original |
Check that the amount is the final total after discounts and all items have been included. The category depends on your method. Correct an extraction before confirming; do not assume a readable photo eliminates every error.
An archive you can find
Use a consistent naming convention, such as date-business, and keep a reference to the original. If you need the document for warranties, tax or another obligation, check applicable requirements: an expense record is not tax certification.
Mistakes to avoid.
Avoid photos with reflections, a cropped total or overlapping sections. Before sharing a receipt, check whether it reveals a name, tax number or other unnecessary information. Do not publish real receipts to demonstrate the app without removing personal information.
A common question.
Can I throw away a receipt after scanning it?
Do not draw that conclusion from Ravnu. Retention needs depend on the document and its purpose. This website does not present scanning as a certified replacement for the original.
